Foddis Fall Winter 2012 collection is inspired from the cranky characters of animated movies. On the hanger, shapes have an unorthodox appearance, challenging the common standards of anatomy. Once on the body, Umberto’s clothes create gently unusual, often asymmetric, volumes, with natural drapé moves. Loose on the shoulders and the waist, they are fluid and exude a poetic and subtly intriguing touch. Finishing includes noteworthy raw cuts with rubber film lining, directly derived from the world of sportwear. Foddis is entirely produced in Italy, mainly by the family atelier that only works with high-end designers.
Umberto Foddis has skilled hands and an effervescent mind. Born in Rome of Sardinian origin, he was drawn into the world of custom dressmaking at the age of fourteen. Through his years as first assistant at Rome’s Gattinoni couture house – which has dressed Hollywood’s most stylish divas such as Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman, he acquired the uncompromising règles de l’art of premium quality bespoke clothing. Endowed with a strong technique, he often creates his designs directly on the dressmaker form, generating refreshing and energetic shapes. His fascination for urban cultures leads Umberto to mix the finest fabrics with fluid and high tech materials that favour motion and active lifestyles. Umberto launched his own label – Foddis – in 2011.
